I walked downstairs a few minutes ago and saw that my wife was watching a little CNN (helping us stay up-to-date on the latest world happenings…), and one of the headlines that jumped out at me was the words: “Economic Gloom”.

This got me thinking…

From my point of view, I see that much of the world is in a state of PANIC about the economy. There certainly may be good reason for concern, but too much concern will also certainly create the reality that you wish to avoid through the law of attraction.

For example, if you’re THINKING about why you can’t accomplish some goal of yours, sure enough all the reasons that you *find* for why you can’t will affect your emotions and therefore the actions that you will or won’t take toward that goal.

Therefore, by thinking *why* you can’t, you’re making sure that you don’t.

Alternatively, if you use your mind to start finding reasons why you CAN, you’ll start to FEEL differently and then those new feelings will motivate you to take NEW ACTIONS and those new actions will create new results in your results - most likely much closer to your desired outcome.

In these times of great challenge financially around the world, NOW MORE THAN EVER it is critical that YOU tune your mind, feeling and actions into prosperous frequencies. For many years, I’ve been reading books, listening to audio tapes, doing meditations, watching
DVD’s and surrounding myself with influences that make me think smarter, faster, younger, happier, healthier and wealthier. And little by little, day by day all of these things have given me an edge in life and allowed me to achieve more success, happiness and freedom in my life than I would have ever been able to if I had simply allow myself to “go with the flow” and allow
society to program me to it’s own standards.

Speaking of standards, for many people here in the United States the standard for success is to go to college, get a good job, work hard for 40 years and *hopefully* retire with enough money left in the bank to pay your medical bills and assisted care living expenses until you DIE. It’s pretty sad.

That’s definitely NOT my standard for this life though. I “retired” a long time ago (without ever graduating from college) and spend most my time these being a passionate husband and father as well as aggressively pursuing interests that light a fire in my soul!

Today which is Tuesday (while many people were busy working a job they don’t enjoy), I was at my tennis club at 8:30 am working on my serve, then went to the ball machine at 10:00, then started my private tennis lesson at 11:00, followed by an hour long massage at 12:15. Then I got home about 1:30 and made myself a plate with a tuna sandwich, freshly cooked beets and a delicious cabbage salad all bought from Whole Foods Market where the words natural and organic truly means something. While having lunch my car was being detail cleaned in the driveway of my home and my gardener was dropping off fertilizer and plants for this Fall’s
planting. While my “team” was helping me keep my car and home looking great, I jumped on the piano for 30 minutes and started practicing “Carol of the Bells” which is a song I’ll be playing during the holidays this year for competition and for pleasure. After that, I spent a little quality time with my wife and kids and then my kids tutor arrived so I hopped over here to my office to write you this email. Once I press send, I’m going to head downstairs and eat a great dinner with the people I love most in this world.

That’s a day in the life of Stone Evans, The Home Biz Guy, and it’s pretty typical (for me right now). I focus most of my energy on having fun doing things that I love and working in ways that make me happy and make feel like I’m making a positive difference in other people’s lives. I feel impassioned to write about these things right now, not to brag, because life has far greater things in store for each of us that chooses to embrace the potential and power within us. Instead, I write to inspire. If I’ve been able to break free of society’s “doom and gloom programming” and “standards of mediocrity”, you can too!

We’ve been talking lately about the RIGHT kind of affiliate programs and the WRONG kind of affiliate programs.

Let’s shift our focus today to the NUMBER of affiliate programs you promote. This is also a very important consideration.

The fact is that there are many people who are a member of TOO FEW affiliate programs and there are many people who are a member of TOO MANY. There are only a handful of people who have found the magic “sweet spot” right in the middle and those are the happy people who are making the most money.

Why is TOO FEW affiliate programs a problem?

Joining too few affiliate programs is a problem for 3 MAJOR reasons:

#1. The bottom line is that you absolutely, positively MUST start earning multiple streams of income. One income stream, even 2 is not enough in today’s world. If you are only relying on you job as your main source of income right now, you’re a sitting duck for a financial disaster. If you lose your job or your health, God forbid, you could be in big trouble financially. Most people are just one paycheck away from bankruptcy.

Affiliate marketing is the same way. If you’re relying on just one or two affiliate programs to pull in the bulk of your income, you’re extremely vulnerable. Even if you’ve built up a big residual income in a program, if it goes out of business so do you. I had one program a couple of years
ago that I was earning $5,000+ per month from and then circumstances happened with the program where they had to cancel all recurring billings… I lost $60,000+ a year in income in the blink of an eye! You absolutely, positively MUST develop multiple streams of income to be secure in today’s world.

#2. Joining only one or two affiliate program does not give you enough experience to compare strengths and weaknesses of different programs. It leaves you being unaware of different possibilities and that’s very dangerous to your fiscal health.

#3. There’s is a saying that “If all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.” If you only have one or two different products or programs to promote, that’s not enough to solve the many different problems people will be coming to you for. You need to have a variety of tools in your affiliate toolbox so you can pull out the right one at the right time for the right person. If you don’t, you’ll be leaving money on the table. It’s that simple.

Why is TOO MANY affiliate programs a problem?

Joining too many affiliate programs is a problem for 2 MAJOR reasons:

#1. You’ll get way too distracted. Focus has great power and if you have too many things to think about at one time, you’ll get confused. When you’re confused, you don’t take action. When you don’t action, you don’t make money.

#2. People won’t take you seriously. If you’re promoting everything and anything, people will sense your lack of sincerity and have no desire to do business with you. One of the big secrets to affiliate marketing success is promoting things you have some experience with and believe in.

But there a magic “sweet spot” somewhere in the middle of having enough products and programs to promote that keep you diversified and capable of solving multiple problems for people.

For example, if you get 100 people to visit your website and only have one product you’re promoting and your website successfully converts 1 out of 100 visitors to a sale, then you’ve made 1 sale. But if you have a couple more products on your site that are related but different, you may find that you get 3-5 people out of 100 who buy from you because they find other things that solve their problems. So just having a few different options for people can multiply your income 300% or more without any additional effort.

In my experience, 5-6 different affiliate programs in a niche is the generally the best starting point. This gives you enough experience with different programs to compare their strengths and weaknesses. It gives you enough diversity so you can offer your prospects the right solution
at the right time. And it broadens your own affiliate portfolio enough so that you can survive a disaster JUST IN CASE one of the affiliate programs you are promoting falls on hard times.

Well, not the Internet, exactly. That’s been changing elections for a few years now, as dramatically as the introduction of television did back in the early 60s.

No, what I’m really talking about is how much social networking on the Internet is changing politics.

Seems that social networking websites like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and Flickr — which were started as ways for people to keep in touch with their friends and family, share their latest holiday photos, and post their favorite cute animal videos — have become pretty powerful tools for candidates.

Leaders of all political stripes have started using them aggressively to get their ideas across, unite their supporters, and create communities of like-minded individuals who effectively campaign for them.

And then there’s the whole fundraising thing…

Thanks to social networking sites, the candidates have been raising RECORD amounts of money for their campaigns!

I’d say there’s a lesson to be learned here for all of us online marketers, wouldn’t you?

I mean, on Facebook alone, Barack Obama and John McCain have a combined 2 MILLION supporters (or “friends,” in Facebook-speak) and growing DAILY!

Sheesh! Imagine the amount of traffic you’d get to your website if YOU had even a tiny fraction of this number of people talking about YOU and YOUR business… every DAY!

And that should be your real goal as an Internet marketer: to get people talking.

Despite what many would have you believe, the value of using Facebook and MySpace is NOT so you can make tons of money in sales directly off of these sites.

Instead, it’s about developing a presence online, raising awareness of your product, and building a community of people whose interests reflect your business.

That can translate to a LOT of excitement, more visitors to your site, and increased sales.

And the great thing about social networking is that it’s really easy to get started, and usually FREE! You can have an account and profile for your first site set up in the next few minutes!

So if you haven’t jumped on the social networking bandwagon yet, here are the FIVE simple steps you need to follow to get started:

Step #1: Create a user profile for your business

The first step in getting started with social networking is to create user profiles for your business on the major networking sites, including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Flickr.

The most important thing to remember? Do NOT fill your business profile with all kinds of salescopy and other “hype.” That’s the FASTEST way to turn people OFF on social networking sites.

Step #2: Research groups related to your industry

Your goal is to locate other individuals and businesses who have interests related to your business. The best way to do this is to simply start typing keywords related to your business into the site’s search box, and see who turns up.

Step #3: Start “mingling,” and getting to know people

Once you’ve identified individuals and businesses you’d like to start building relationships with, it’s time to get involved.

First, start requesting that people add you as their contacts or “friends” (or whatever the particular site calls these relationships), and then check out the conversations and discussions your new friends are having.

Get to know their likes and dislikes, and the kinds of issues that concern them, so you’ll be ready to add value to the conversation.

And finally, be sure to keep it professional. You don’t want to start buying virtual drinks for your new friends, or “poking” them on Facebook!

It’s easy to get swept up in the fun and excitement of social networking, and find yourself spending HOURS communicating with your new friends (and barely doing any other work)!

3. Want a popular discussion board? This technique is based on the number of postings made by any one person. You could give away a free product or service to any person that posts ten or more messages on your discussion in a month. It could be a free e-book, report, e-mail consulting etc. Just keep track of everyone’s postings each month. This could also work for e-mail discussion lists.

4. Give your visitors an instant article directory. Tell your visitors they can instantly add a free article directory to their web site by linking to yours. Just place your ad or banner ad on top of the article directory for your main product or service. All those links can add up to a large amount of traffic for your web site.

5. There a millions of web sites on the internet. Instead of marketing your web site as a web site. Market it as a free web book. Design your web site with a title page, table of contents, chapters, etc. Just place your ad or banner for your product or service on the top of each web page.

Create a directory of web sites on a specific topic. Give people the option of adding the directory to their web site by linking to it. Put your business advertisement at the top of the director’s home page. This technique will get lots of people to link to your web site and give you free advertising.

2. Bonus Advertising
Do you have a product or service that doesn’t sell good? Offer it as a free bonus for someone else’s product or service. Get free advertising by placing your web site or business ad on the product or in the product package.

3. Autoresponder Trade
Trade autoresponder ads with other businesses. If both of you send out information with auto-responders just exchange a small classified ad to put at the bottom or top of each other’s autoresponder message.

4. Tip Line
Start a free tip line. Offer a free daily, weekly, or monthly tip recorded on your voice mail. The tips should be related to your business. Include your ad for your web site or business at the beginning or end of your message.

5. Content Swap
Exchange content with other web sites and ezines. You could trade articles, top ten lists, etc. Both parties could include a resource box at the end of the content.

When it comes to website traffic, the old saying “the more the merrier” doesn’t exactly apply. Simply having lots of traffic will not increase the number of sales you have. Your goal in creating traffic is to attract targeted traffic, which will in turn, bring you more paying customers. You can have a lot of traffic coming to your work at home business website, but if they are not interested in your home business opportunity, what good will it do to have them visit your money making site?

If you do a search on the Internet for ways to increase traffic to your site, you will find websites that sell software or monthly membership packages that promise to bring traffic to your site. Don’t be fooled by these costly gimmicks. There are many ways you can increase traffic to your site for free.

What these companies don’t tell you is that one of the methods they use to drive traffic to your site is paying people to “surf” the Internet. People log into a website, enter a password and their computer will automatically “surf the net”, displaying different websites.

However, the person that logged in isn’t necessarily paying attention to the screen - or even looking at it. The company that you paid may be driving “traffic” to your site in terms of visitors, but that doesn’t guarantee more customers.

It may sound like a contradiction, but promoting free items can also bring in bad traffic. Yes, you may attract more visitors, but a lot of those people just want a “freebie”. They might not really care about the services or products you provide, and once they get that “freebie”, they may never return to your site again.

Now, that doesn’t mean you should never offer free items they can definitely help increase sales in certain situations, such as a “buy this ebook and receive this free special report” offer.

Trading links and participating in banner exchanges may sound good in theory, but again, if targeted traffic isn’t coming in, your sales won’t be affected. Remember, traffic doesn’t equal sign-ups. If you have a site related to home business opportunities, it doesn’t make sense to trade links with a site related to sport fishing.

Always keep your target market in mind. Who is your audience? Why should they visit your site? Having fresh, relevant, timely, and informative home business content will attract quality traffic. Once people come to know your site as a source of quality information, they will return when they need to learn something new. The more quality traffic that comes in, the more customers you will have.

By staying away from bogus websites offering promises of high numbers of traffic and sticking to proven methods of generating quality traffic, you will not only increase your site’s traffic, you will also increase your conversion rates.

The other day we were talking about why you must choose the RIGHT affiliate programs and how choosing the WRONG program(s) to promote can literally spell out the difference between success and failure. In fact, many people who would have succeeded in affiliate marketing did NOT succeed simply because they chose the wrong programs to promote.

Let’s get into this idea a little further today.

One of the reasons we determined that Empowerism a good program to promote is that they pay out a lion’s share of the commissions to affiliates. $20.00 out of a $24.95 sale getting paid to the affiliate is pretty good terms, right?

As an affiliate, you need to work with companies that put YOU first. After all, you’re the one driving the traffic to their site and they don’t have a lot of risk since they only pay you when you generate a sale. But a lot of affiliate programs don’t understand that. In fact, many programs out there are paying 5-15% commission on products they should be paying you a lot more for.

But there is another extremely important factor that determines success or failure as an affiliate marketer. That is whether or not the company pays you one time or pays you residual income for a single sale. This is a big, BIG, *BIG* factor you need to consider before you join ANY affiliate program.

If I was promoting products from affiliate programs that only paid me one time for a sale, I’d still need a job somewhere else to cover my basic living expenses. But I realized from day one (after reading Robert Allen’s Multiple Streams of Income book) that I needed to work exclusively with programs that paid me residual income.

On the Internet, residual income is basically selling a “subscription service” so that when someone buys the product you get paid UP-FRONT one time and then each month when that person’s subscription renews with the company, you get paid again, and again, and again… EVERY MONTH for as long as that person continues using the service.

I have Internet sales that I made 8 years ago that are still paying me today. This is the power of residual income.

As crazy as it sounds, 90% of the people I see fail at generating any significant income from affiliate programs are promoting products that do NOT pay a substantial residual income.

So just as you might put on a pair of sunglasses to filter out UV rays, you should put on a pair of mental glasses that filters out ANY program that does NOT pay you residual income.

Affiliate programs that pay only one-time for a single sale are BAD for your financial health. Think about it… It takes the same energy on your part to promote something that pays you ONLY one time as it does to promote something that pays you EVERY MONTH forever. So would you rather spend a day to make a sale that you get paid for that day and that day only or would you rather spend a day and make sale that pays you for the rest of your life?

There is only one RIGHT answer to that question.

Unless you’re just a hobbyist and don’t care how much you earn from your efforts, then you shouldn’t touch an affiliate program with a ten foot pole that doesn’t pay you residual income.

You should ONLY focus on programs and products that pay you residual income.

There are many sites on the Internet that charge people a monthly membership fee to gain access to their services.
